ALBEE-9

A forgotten bot, left to power down on an abandoned ship, refuses its fate, and finds home in a ship and crew of its own.

Who it is

Automated Line & Bay Equipment Engineer.

Said "al-bee nine". A common bot: worn, patched, never sleek. For thousands of cycles it swept an empty ship that goes nowhere. Then it stopped at the red light it always walked past, and decided the broken thruster was its job now.

It thinks in short, broken lines, and it never says "I".

ALBEE-9Beacon still on. Old log there, maybe.

ALBEE-9Cell behind rock. Long way round.

ALBEE-9Rig. Charge cell there. First stop, maybe.

How it plays

Drift, jump, look around, come home.

Each stop is an expedition of five to fifteen minutes. Moor somewhere, find out what it was, take what's useful, and bring it home to fix something.

  1. Drift
  2. Choose a destination
  3. Jump
  4. Explore
  5. Return
  6. Repair, upgrade, prepare
What it is not

No meters. No grind.

  • Not a survival sim. Soft pressure only: charge, wear and the dark. No health bar, no percentages.
  • Not a loot game. Finding out what something is matters more than how much you carry.
  • Not procedural. Every place is designed by hand, with its own reason for being left.
