  What it is

  A slow board game for a browser tab. A hexagonal island sits in the dark; up to six tribes move out into it, and a tile only becomes land once someone has walked it. Every tile you take is one the others can't have. By the end, a monument stands where the dark was.

  What it is

  A small town at a crossroads, and you are its mayor. Travellers come down the road and some ask to stay. You lay the ground — plots, paths, a lamp, a bridge — and decide who may settle. The ones you take in build their own premises, so the town is made by the people in it.

  A town you can come back to

  The town went up on Jibbick. Sign in and your town is kept, so it opens on any phone where you left it; if two devices have played it apart, the door asks which town to keep rather than choosing for you.

  Deadlines close on the second

  A timed turn used to be checked for every five seconds; now the server sets one alarm for the next deadline. A three-day game costs nothing between turns, and a five-minute one still ends exactly when it should.

  The rulebook's game

  The original board game's rulebook and cards arrived, and Monument now follows them: tokens take the rulebook's values, mining costs 1 rather than 10, a monument is 33 food and 30 points, the technology rungs take the cards' names, the first rung is bought for one food rather than dealt, and the panel says what each rung does.

  Monument on a phone

  Pinch to zoom, two fingers to pan, and a tap that is not a drag. The panel you summon on a hex becomes a sheet at the bottom of the screen, and the tribe list and the score stand aside while you choose a move.

  One account for every Jibbick game

  Signing in moved out of Monument and into Jibbick, so one account opens every game. Your account can be exported as well as deleted, and every surface has a way back to the courtyard.
